Turmeric
Turmeric is a spice that is most commonly used as a in curries and other dishes for flavor. It has a deep yellow–orange color and is a member of the ginger family. It has been used in India for centuries as a medicinal herb and has recently become popular in the West for its anti–inflammatory properties. Curcumin, a compound found in turmeric, is the active ingredient responsible for the herb‘s medicinal properties. It is thought to help with a variety of health issues, including arthritis, digestive issues, and skin conditions.
How Much Can You Consume?
The recommended daily intake of turmeric is about 1 to 3 grams. If you are adding it to food, 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric contains about 2.1 grams. To get the most health benefits from it, it is best to take it in supplement form. Talk to your doctor or healthcare provider before taking any supplements.
